Gibbs picked some of the finest cricketers to play for South Africa.
Former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs has made his picks for the all-time best Protest Test and ODI XI. The explosive batsman revealed his side in a tweet on the micro-blogging site.
For opening spot, Graeme Smith and Gary Kirsten. Smith has played 117 Tests for South Africa to score 9265 runs. His opening partner in Gibbs' team, Kirsten has also played 101 Tests and scored 7289 runs which justifies his pick.
Some more flashy names on the side are Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis. While Amla is a reliable top-order batsman, Kallis is an all-time great all-rounder and his records prove it.
AB de Villiers was an obvious inclusion, along with South Africa's one of the finest wicket-keepers Mark Boucher. The bowling attack saw some familiar names too.
There was a name that fans failed to recall, Brett Schultz. Added in the bowling line-up, left-arm pacer Schultz played only 9 Tests for his national team but was impressive enough to make it into Gibbs' side.
When a fan asked Gibbs about the bowler, he replied, "He’s a bowler the world unfortunately never got to see enough of.. evil as f...!"
