"The best part of Kohli's game is his preparation. I have learnt that from him. His work ethic is amazing," said Vihari, who has so far played 9 Tests for India, during an Instagram live chat session.
Since his debut in England, Vihari has been a regular member of the Indian team on tours abroad to Australia, West Indies and New Zealand.
The 26-year-old is made to sit on the bench, however, when India decides to go in with an extra bowler in home conditions.
"I am ready to do anything for my team. I always tried to score runs, dig deep and play long innings whenever I play abroad. I always try to do my best so that team can't drop me," said Vihari.
Perceptions play a part in Indian cricket and who knows it better than Vihari after being pigeonholed as a Test specialist.
But he wants to control the controllables and do well in whatever opportunities he gets at the List A domestic level in order to become an all-format player for India.
"See I can't change what people think about you," he said. "I have to score runs consistently and those are the thoughts that come to my mind."
"I believe I have the ability to play all formats. So that's good enough for me, this knowledge. Once I get the right opportunity, I can do it."
