Sunil Gavaskar donates 59 lakhs for COVID 19 relief fund; son Rohan reveals the reason behind the amount

India's cricket great Sunil Gavaskar donated Rs 59 lakhs to join the fight against COVID-19. He didn't make the donation public, it was former Mumbai batsman Amol Majumdar who shared the news on social media.

Majumdar said Gavaskar has donated Rs 35 lakh to PM-CARES fund and Rs 24 lakh to the Maharashtra state government's COVID-19 relief fund.

The legendary cricketer's son Rohit Gavaskar confirmed the news and said his father made the donation last week. 

There is a reason behind the number '35' and '24', and he revealed, "This was done last week. 35 because he scored 35 hundred for India and 24 because he scored 24 for Mumbai. Prayers for everyone's good health and that we are all safe and sound."

Gavaskar played 125 Test matches for India and he scored 10,122 runs with an average of 51.12. In ODIs, he represented India in 108 matches and added 3092 runs. He could only score 1 hundred in ODIs, but 34 in Tests with 4 double hundreds.
