Wasim Akram and Darren Gough to auction memorabilia to raise funds for Coronavirus fight

Coronavirus has claimed near 60,000 lives globally so far.

With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic worsening with each passing day, cricket fraternities have been coming forward with individual and charitable efforts to help during the crisis and the latest are former fast bowlers Darren Gough and Wasim Akram to help with the COVID-19 relief efforts.

Gough, former England fast-bowler and current bowling coach at the national side, and legendary Pakistan speedster Akram have joined hands to make charitable efforts to help out during the COVID-19 crisis.

The two have decided to auction their memorabilia from cricketing days and raise funds towards the Centre for Disaster Philanthropy who have set up a COVID-19 Response Fund to fight the ongoing global pandemic, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo.

It is being said that former Pakistan captain – who is Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in both Test and ODI cricket with 414 wickets and 502 wickets respectively, has pledged a signed bat and ball, while Gough – England’s second-highest wicket-taker in ODI cricket, has pledged a signed ball.

Noteworthy, Akram and Gough join a long list of cricketers including Jos Buttler, who is auctioning his World Cup 2019 final shirt, to fight the pandemic.

On the other hand, Ravi Bopara and the umpire Aleem Dar have been offering food from their restaurant in London to NHS staff and in Lahore respectively, while Kent's Sam Billings has offered to shop for vulnerable people in his area, and Sam Curran has launched a fundraising campaign.

England women's captain Heather Knight and the Surrey allrounder Rikki Clarke have signed up as NHS volunteers to do their bit in this time of need.
