There have been reports of NGOs refusing food and help to non-Muslims in Pakistan.
Yuvraj had tweeted, “These are testing times, it’s time to lookout for each other specially the ones who are lesser fortunate. Lets do our bit, I am supporting @SAfridiOfficial & @SAFoundationN in this noble initiative of covid19. Pls donate on http://donatekarona.com #StayHome @harbhajan_singh”
Apart from Yuvraj, his former Punjab and India teammate Harbhajan Singh also made the same appeal, which resulted in a raging storm on social media with Indian Twitterverse raging at the duo for supporting Afridi’s foundation when their nation itself needed much help from celebrities.
This especially after Shahid Afridi’s attitude and incensing remarks about Kashmir and India. There have been reports as well from leading news outlets that many NGOs in Pakistan are refusing food and essential things to non-Muslim people affected by the outbreak.
Shahid Afridi thanks Yuvraj and Harbhajan for showing support to his work
Now, after much criticism from all over the country for his actions, Yuvraj Singh has come out with an explanation saying that he doesn’t understand how a simple appeal for help can be ‘blown out of proportion’.
He posted on his Twitter, “I really don't understand how a message to help the most vulnerable gets blown out of proportion! All I tried to achieve via that message was that to help people in our respective countries by providing healthcare, my intention was not to hurt anyone's feelings. I am an Indian and I will always bleed blue and will always stand for humanity. Jai hind.”
