With the imposed worldwide travel restrictions due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, England women cricketers Lauren Winfield and Amy Jones are stuck in Australia – the country has now reportedly warned people to be ready for a 6-month lockdown.
The entire world is battling for life against the deadly virus, a lot of people are struggling to reach their homes all around the world, as all the infected countries have imposed a travel ban in a wake of Coronavirus pandemic in order to prevent the spread of the fast-growing virus.
Both Winfield and Amy were part of England’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 campaign in Australia, though all the other players returned home but they stayed there for some personal reasons and now they are struggling to get out of this critical situation.
Winfield was in Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef to celebrate her honeymoon following her marriage to long-term partner Courtney Hill, while Jones was in Perth and now both are currently unable to return home with borders closing.
Winfield told The Independent: “I was supposed to fly home on Friday. But my flight has been cancelled. Everything through Dubai, Emirates, has been cancelled for the next two weeks. They are reassessing in two weeks' time. But rumours are it could be up to two to three months. At the minute I have a flight on the 8th (April), but I feel like that's just going to come around and it'll get pushed back and back.”
The cricketer also said she and Jones had promised to each other that they would not leave the other behind when they finally get to travel back home.
Noteworthy, the Coronavirus has infected almost 600,000 people and claimed over 25000 lives globally so far, with USA leading the chart in this crisis with over 85000 infected people.
