Tendulkar batted on his home ground after 2304 days.
The legend of Sachin Tendulkar is well known to every cricket fan. He scored 100 international centuries and made more than 34,000 runs in international cricket. Not everyone especially younger fans have seen him bat live though, as the 'Master Blaster' retired from all forms of the game in 2013 after playing a record 200th Test for India on his home ground, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
So this Saturday (March 7) was an opportunity for all those people who missed out then to now watch Tendulkar live with a bat in his hand. It was also a chance for many others who followed his cricket right through his glorious 24-year career, to relive some of the memories associated with him.
Leading India Legends against West Indies Legends in the inaugural edition of Road Safety World Series, Tendulkar won the toss and opted to bowl first. West Indies Legends scored 150/8 in their 20 overs with Shivnarine Chanderpaul scoring 61. Zaheer Khan, Pragyan Ojha and Munaf Patel picked two wickets each for India Legends.
Chasing 151 to win, Tendulkar opened the innings with Virender Sehwag, reviving the opening partnership that was so loved by the fans. The duo began in typical fashion, as Sehwag took the lead while Tendulkar settled in before playing his shots. They added 83 runs for the opening wicket and Tendulkar scored 36 runs off 29 balls with 7 boundaries.
After he was dismissed, Mohammad Kaif and Manpreet Gony could not impress much but Sehwag carried on to score 74* off 57 balls and finished the game as India won by 7 wickets. Yuvraj Singh too entertained the crowd with an unbeaten 10 off 7 balls. Carl Hooper picked up two wickets to make the game little interesting.
Sachin's innings contained some of his signature strokes and fans shared videos on Twitter in excitement. Here are few of them for you to enjoy:
