Jasprit Bumrah on Sunday (January 12) swept the major honours in BCCI Annual Awards function. The India speedster won the Polly Umrigar award and Dilip Sardesai award for his brilliance in international cricket in the 2018-19 season.

Polly Umrigar award is conferred to the best male International cricketer and it carries a citation, trophy and cheque for Rs. 15 lakh. On the other hand, Dilip Sardesai award is presented to both the highest wicket-taker and top run-getter in Test cricket.

Bumrah picked up 34 wickets in 6 Tests with three five-wicket hauls in the 2018-19 season, while Chetshwar Pujara won the same honour in the batting department for scoring 677 runs in 8 Tests at an average of 52.07 with three tons and two fifties.

Having made his Test debut in January 2018, Bumrah has taken five-wicket haul in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies.

He also played an instrumental role in India’s first-ever Test series victory on Australian soil in the 2018-19 season. Bumrah decimated the Caribbean batting line-up in the two-match Test series in August last year, claiming 13 wickets at a phenomenal average of 9.23 including a hat-trick.

In the women's section, leg-spinner Poonam Yadav grabbed the top prize as she was awarded the best international cricketer. Notably, Poonam had received the Arjuna Award last month.

Former India skippers Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Anjum Chopra were bestowed with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award and the BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for women respectively.

For impressive performance in his maiden season for India, opener Mayank Agarwal received the best international debut in men's category while Shafali Verma grabbed the same award in the women's category.

Mumbai all-rounder Shivam Dube was given the Lala Amarnath Award for the best all-rounder in the Ranji Trophy while Delhi's Nitish Rana received the same for doing well in limited-overs format.

India's middle-order batter Deepti Sharma received the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for best woman cricketer in senior domestic circuit while Shafali was picked for the same honour in junior category.

Virender Sharma was adjudged the best umpire in domestic cricket whereas Vidarbha Cricket Association earned the best performance award in domestic cricket for clinching the Ranji Trophy.

"The BCCI Awards is our way of recognising the finest on-field performances right from the age group to senior level and also honour our legends," BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said.

"We wanted to make Naman bigger and better and have introduced four new categories highest run-getter and wicket-takers in WODIs and best international debut men and women from this year,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah quoted.
