BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Friday (December 20) confirmed that a Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will be formed in the next two days to pick the new selection committee on a three-year term.

Ganguly also said the CAC’s role would be limited to just one meeting since the appointment of head coach has already been made by the previous panel led by the legendary Kapil Dev.

“The CAC will be appointed in a couple of days. It will only be for one meeting to appoint the selectors as the head coach has already been picked,” Ganguly quoted as saying by PTI.

The tenure of current chief selector MSK Prasad has ended along with one another member, Gagan Khoda. Although Jatin Paranjpe, Sarandeep Singh and Devang Gandhi still have one year left in their term, the trio is unlikely to be retained.

In the last couple of years, the ‘conflict of interest’ has become a major topic of discussion within the Indian cricket fraternity and thus CAC’s appointment creates needless controversy.

Before the Kapil Dev-led CAC was accused of conflict of interest which led to their resignation, stalwarts such as Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Ganguly himself had also faced the same issue.

Ganguly, after taking charge as BCCI chief in October, admitted that accomplished cricketers were hesitant to take up positions in the CAC as they don’t want to be dragged into conflict of interest controversies.
