England all-rounder Moeen Ali on Thursday (October 31) signed up by the Cape Town Blitz for the second edition of the Mzansi Super League (MSL) 2019.

However, Moeen will feature in the two opening matches for the Blitz – against Jozi Stars on November 8 and Paarl Rocks on November 10, as the Englishman joins as cover for Pakistan seamer Wahab Riaz, who will join the team in the MSL 2019 after his international commitments.

The left-arm pacer is part of Pakistan's T20I squad for the three-match series against Australia and with the final match of the series to be played on November 8, Riaz will be available for the Blitz from their third match on November 14 in South Africa’s T20 league.

Cape Town Blitz head coach Ashwell Prince reckons that Ali will bring all his experience to the squad.

Prince further stated, “Moeen brings huge international experience to the team and in County cricket, he won the T20 Blast in 2018 with Worcestershire Rapids and he led them to 2019 final, so we're looking forward to having him in Cape Town.”

Meanwhile, the all-rounder is looking forward to his stint with the South African T20 league after missing out on a central Test contract with England for 2019-20 having opted to take a break from the longest format of the game. He has been also rested for the New Zealand T20Is as he wants to enjoy this break.

Moeen said, “I'm very excited to be part of the MSL and joining Cape Town Blitz for the start of the tournament. I'm looking forward to playing with and against some world-class players.”

He signed off by saying, “I feel like I want to enjoy my batting and this will give me a bit of a break.”
