PICS: Italian kids play cricket for first time in an event organized by Italian National Olympic Committee

Italy national cricket team has been an associate member of the ICC since 1995.

Italy is a country rich in culture and sports, especially football being the premier sport of the nation. The country has won the FIFA World Cup four times in 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006. However, the country is also seeing an increase in love for the game of cricket, thanks to the efforts of the Italian National Olympic Committee.

The interest regarding Cricket is developing slowly but steadily and their current steady 26th rank in the latest ICC T20I rankings also proves the same. Italy national cricket team has been an associate member of the ICC since 1995 and gained international status in the T20 format in April 2018 after the ICC’s decision to grant the same to all its members. Italy played its first-ever T20 International against Germany in May earlier this year and won the two-match series by 2-0.

This led to the Italian National Olympic Committee, which was found in 1914 to organize an event on Sunday, September 29 to give kids their first glimpse of the game of cricket. Italian Cricket TV shared the pictures of the same where some of the kids were enthused while playing the sport, probably for the first time.
