Former Australia cricketer Dean Jones on Tuesday, 27th August, came up with a cryptic message on Twitter, where he hinted at an impending “big news” which will be broken by the end of the week.

Jones, who is a complete package of entertainment in the commentary box with his great sense of game and analysis off the field, has invested time in some serious coaching with Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League. He also worked as the interim head coach of Afghanistan national team in 2017 after represented Australia in 52 Tests and 164 ODIs between 1984 and 1992.

However, the 58-year-old doesn’t have tons of experience in coaching at the highest level, but it seems that he could be offered the opportunity with Pakistan national team, as Jones is one of the short-listed candidates by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the head coach’s position.

Dean could get the favor from the PCB especially because of his excellent rapport with cricketing authorities in Pakistan, having guided Islamabad United to PSL title in 2016 and 2018. Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, Jones left curious his fans especially Pakistanis with his cryptic post, which reads: “Big news to be announced by the end of the week.”

Noteworthy, it would be a huge surprise if Jones is offered the role as Pakistan head coach as Misbah-ul-Haq, former captain, who is Pakistan's one of the cleanest and well-respected ever cricketers, appears to be a front-runner for the top job.

Former West Indian captain Courtney Walsh also joined the race for the top position with Pakistan after his stint as Bangladesh bowling coach expired after World Cup 2019.

While an online poll conducted by Geo Super on its official Twitter account showed that Jones tops the chart with 45 percent fans voted for him, overtaken Misbah, who received 37 percent votes.
