Hubli Tigers and Bellary Tuskers faced each other in the 6th match of Karnataka Premier League (KPL) 2019 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Monday (August 19).
After being put into bat, Tuskers rode on Devdutt Padikkal’s 56-ball 70 (4 fours and 3 sixes) to post 163/8 on the board. Abhishek Reddy (24 off 21 balls), Zeeshan Ali Sayeed (25 off 14 balls) and Vishnu Priyan (17*off 13 balls) were other notable contributors with the bat.
For the Tigers, Mitrakanth Yadav (2/6), Aditya Somanna (2/28) and David Mathias (2/35) claimed two wickets each while skipper Vinay Kumar chipped in with a scalp.
In reply, Hubli Tigers got off to a terrible start as Prasidh Krishna removed opener Mohammed Taha for duck in the very second ball of the innings. M Vishwanathan and Luvnith Sisodia added 34 runs for the second wicket to steady the sheep. Karthik CA broke the partnership by dismissing Sisodia on 22.
Afterwards, left-arm spinner Abrar Kazi got rid of Vishwanathan (30) and KB Pawan (0) in the same over while KP Appanna sent KL Shrijith (22) packing to reduce the Tigers to 83/5 in 12.3 overs. Just when things were looking down and out, the pair of Praveen Dubey and captain Vinay scripted a comeback for the Hubli Tigers with a 49-run partnership for the sixth wicket in just 33 balls.
Krishnappa Gowtham dismissed the dangerous looking Dubey on 20-ball 28 to end the last hope for Tigers. Prasidh conceded 8 runs and took one wicket in the penultimate over while Karthik CA gave away 14 runs and claimed two scalps as Bellary Tuskers eventually restricted Hubli Tigers to 154/9 in 20 overs, registering a 9-run victory.
