Ashwin has played under Dhoni for a long time, in both, IPL and international cricket.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) skipper R Ashwin had made headlines last year for saying he is going to be the most unpredictable captain after being appointed for the leadership role.
But Ashwin would have been surprised by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni when he sent Harbhajan Singh and Deepak Chahar ahead of himself while chasing last year.
Ashwin, in the latest chat with ESPN Cricinfo, admitted that he admires Dhoni the most as a captain and considers him the smartest cricketing brain. Apart from the trophies, Dhoni has won, his game awareness and inputs as a captain are evidence of how good he was as a leader.
Ashwin has played under Dhoni for a long time. The off-spinner was part of the Chennai Super Kings before getting sold to Kings XI Punjab. His experience made him a top contender for captaincy there.
