Former cricketer was part of the national selection panel since 2016.
Greg Chappell will leave his position as Australia's selector and national talent manager at the end of this year's Ashes in England.
There were widespread debates surrounding the role of this current national selection panel, amidst which, Chappell informed his colleagues - Trevor Hohns and Justin Langer - about his departure from Cricket Australia(CA) after more than 30-year-long stay at the helm since 1984.
The ex-Indian head coach had three tenures as the national selector from 1984 to 1988, 2010 to 2011 and 2016 until this year. Chappell was also the head coach at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane before his appointment as Cricket Australia’s national talent manager in 2010.
The legendary batsman lost his place in the panel in 2011 as per the Don Argus-led review. But he regained it in 2016 following resignation from the then chairman of selectors Rod Marsh, in wake of Australia's five consecutive Test defeats versus Sri Lanka and South Africa.
Quite unfortunate that Chappell's last phase with the board coincided with the infamous ball-tampering incident and the cultural review that followed. Both of these preceded Australia's maiden Test series loss on home shores against India.
