Brisbane Heat captain Brendon McCullum lavished praise on Mujeeb Ur Rahman after Afghanistan spin sensation produced a Player of the Match performance for the side against the Perth Scorchers in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2018-19 on Sunday (January 6) in Perth.

Mujeeb was the difference at the Perth Stadium, as his magical spell of 2/10 in his four overs helped the Brisbane to end their losing streak in the ongoing BBL 08 by winning their first match of the tournament by 5 wickets against the Scorchers after having opened their campaign with three defeats.

In his stunning spell, the 17-year-old bowled 16 dot balls and dismissed Perth captain Mitchell Marsh and Michael Klinger and his skipper McCullum was overwhelmed with this teenager’s show in the T20 event.

McCullum told reporters in Perth on Sunday, “He's really quiet but he's a great guy. I still find it incredibly courageous from him to fly the nest and come all the way over from Afghanistan to embed himself in a foreign environment for two months at his age.”

He continued, “The performances he is putting up are deserving of his efforts and courage to do so. He's a great member of our side. He doesn't say a lot, but the boys enjoy him and obviously, when he performs like that, it's certainly easier to get right in behind him.”

Meanwhile, the teenager is enjoying every moment in the Australian T20 league. He signed off by saying, “I'm very excited to be named Player of the Match. I'm very excited. I am really enjoying it very much. Australia is a country I'm very impressed by and my teammates, I am really enjoying everything about it.”
