Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan was fined 15 percent of his match fee for shouting at the umpire during the series opener of the three-match T20 International against the West Indies in Sylhet.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the latest development via a statement late Tuesday (December 18). The all-rounder showed dissent while batting after the umpire did not call a wide in the 14th over of the Bangladesh innings in Sylhet T20I.
Shakib was also handed one demerit point for showing dissent at the umpire during Bangladesh's massive eight-wicket defeat in the first T20I against the West Indies on Monday.
Now, the 31-year-old has two demerit points, having been handed one for an offense during a T20I against Sri Lanka in March 2018. He has accepted the sanction, hence, there was no need of formal hearing, said ICC in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement reads, “He first shouted at the umpire and then got involved in a prolonged discussion. After the end of the match, Shakib admitted the offense and accepted the sanction.”
Shakib scored 61 off 43 balls in Sylhet but could not prevent a humiliating loss for his side against the Windies. The second and third matches will be held in Dhaka on Thursday and Saturday.
