MS Dhoni has been under fire for his slow batting when quick runs have been needed.
He has been unable to capture the hitting prowess of his past form and his inability to hit those big shots and finishing matches are hurting the team now and have put his spot in the team under question with 2019 World Cup approaching.
However, one of the greatest batsmen of all time in the game, AB de Villiers has provided support to MS Dhoni and said that he would’ve picked the veteran in his team even if he turns 80 years old.
There have been calls for Dhoni to retire after he has failed to finish the games like before and even in the Asia Cup, he wasn’t at his best. He was also booed at the Lord’s earlier this year for not trying to upping the ante when the required run-rate was increasing with every dot ball.
“You guys are funny. No, I would play MS Dhoni in my team every day of every year. He can be 80 (years old), I ensure he will play for my team. He is fantastic I mean look at his record. You want to drop a guy like that? You can go ahead by all means. I wouldn’t,” De Villiers was quoted as saying by The Quint.
MS Dhoni has been named in the Indian squad for the first two ODI matches in the five-match series against West Indies.
