New Zealand’s Plunkett Shield match sees a rare 0 for 0 double declaration

The match was played between Canterbury and Central stags.

New Zealand’s domestic cricket tournament, the Plunkett shield saw a unique occurrence when both teams Central Stags and Canterbury declared on 0 for 0, as the two teams decided to go for a result in a rain-hit game.

The match was ended in a thrilling fashion, as the Canterbury’s last pair kept the Stags’ bowlers at bay for 26 overs. However, with one over to go in the game, left-arm seamer Ryan McCone dismissing Canterbury's last man Andrew Hazeldine and won the match for Stags.

After rain had washed out the second and third days of the game, the fourth and final day started with Central Stags on 301 for 7 in their first innings. They declared for 352/7. Then Canterbury declared their innings for 0/0 and Stags did the same with the former needing 353 to win in a possible 89 overs.

Canterbury then collapsed to 131 for 9 shortly after tea with New Zealand international Seth Rance picking up five wickets to put his side in sight of victory. But No. 10 & 11, Will Williams (28) and Hazeldine (41) held the fort for 26 overs and looked set to get a famous draw for Canterbury, but McCone got one to shape away from around the wicket, breaching Hazeldine's defense.

The 2013 County Championships in England saw double 0 for 0 declarations with Hampshire involved on both occasions against Gloucestershire and Leicestershire.
