Goswami finishes with 56 wickets from 68 T20Is.
Veteran Indian fast-bowler Jhulan Goswami called time on her T20 International career earlier on Friday (24 August), saying it was her personal decision.
The 35-year-old revealed the reason for taking her decision saying that she was finding it increasingly difficult to motivate herself to keep up with the format's pace and that she was catching up with age also did not help her cause.
As per reports in ICC’s official website, Jhulan said, “It's not an overnight decision. I have been thinking about this for some time. I couldn't motivate myself to play T20Is … The game has become faster. I wasn't able to give my best in both the formats ... I felt I was getting older and I didn't have much more to give.”
Goswami, who finishes with 56 wickets from 68 T20Is, the most scalps by any Indian, insisted that she had no regrets of taking the decision just two months before the ICC Women’s World T20 2018 in the West Indies in November. Now, Jhulan’s main focus will be one-day internationals, where she is the all-time leading wicket-taker with 203 wickets in 169 ODIs.
She signed off by saying, “Cricket has become tougher, and I have realized my body is taking time to recover. Injury is part and parcel of every sportsperson's life. You have to cope with it. But there was no pressure from anyone. It's my personal decision.”
