President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan has put up his bid to become the Pakistani PM in the upcoming elections. The 1992 World Cup winning captain Imran Khan had a glorious career in cricket which saw him reach both personal and cricketing glory.

Khan’s chances of becoming prime minister on July 25 are believed to be his best since entering politics two decades ago. Imran has alleged backing of the powerful Pakistani military. Imran Khan has refuted such claims and promised to build an “Islamic welfare state”, if his party comes to power and forms the next government.

His bid to gain mileage for the upcoming elections found support of his protégés, former Pakistan captains Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.

Both Wasim and Waqar began their international careers under Imran Khan in 1984 and 1989 respectively and Imran is credited to have unearthed the talent of Wasim Akram, who is regarded as the best left-arm fast bowler in cricket’s history. Wasim Akram led Pakistan in 1996 and 1999 World Cups.

Waqar, on the other hand, is considered to be one of the fastest bowlers of his time and led Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup.

Waqar Younis supported Wasim Akram and tweeted, “You have got what it takes Skipper @ImranKhanPTI but it will take everything you have... No one can doubt your Honesty and thats what is require in our country...An honest LEADER.”

#BehindYouSkipper became one of the country’s top trending hashtags. Imran also got support from former Australia cricketer Dean Jones.

Wasim Akram also tweeted in support of Imran, “It was in your leadership skip @ImrankhanPTI that we became world champions in 1992. It is in your leadership that we can again become a great democratic country”
