KL Rahul wants to be consistently playing all the formats for India.
With next year's ICC Cricket World Cup around and having scored 659 runs in the recently concluded Indian Premier League for Kings XI Punjab, KL Rahul feels rejuvenated about his limited overs fortunes in Indian Cricket. Rahul has gone through the disappointment of being dropped from the team and when drafted into the squad, he has felt the pain of being consistently overlooked for the opening slot in India's T20I and ODI sides.
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have now become one of the best opening partnerships for India, which leaves KL Rahul in an indifferent position. He doesn't really feel the most comfortable playing in the middle order at no.4 but has to try and get that position for himself, if he wants to be in the ODI side.
KL Rahul understands it all, as he was quoted saying to TOI recently, "My childhood dream is to play the World Cup and if the team management wants me to bat No 4, I am ready to do it because nothing is bigger than playing for India. I hope to continue with my recent form in ODIs too,"
"Right now my aim is to score runs for my country and it doesn't matter if it is coming as an opener or in the middle order. As long as I am performing these things don't matter but the final decision is taken by the team management. If they want me to bat at No 4, then I am up for the challenge,"
He now looks forward to countering the challenge that Afghanistan's wrist spinners possess, when he will be up against them in Test match starting June 14th.
"No doubt they are a very talented squad with some really good spinners. That's their strength but we will play to our strength."
