Virat Kohli sprained his neck in RCB's recently concluded IPL 11 campaign.
In a disappointing development for Virat Kohli, he has been ruled out of his stint with Surrey in the English county championship due to a neck injury, clarified BCCI in a press release.
He suffered that neck injury in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign. Kohli had consulted a reputed orthopedic surgeon from a hospital in Khar, Mumbai, according to a report in The Times of India.
The surgeon and the team of doctors advised Kohli to forego his stint with Surrey to avoid aggravating the condition. A top BCCI official, privy to Kohli’s county engagements, has told PTI that it is a case of “neck sprain” and not a “slip disc injury” as reported.
Confirmed then, that Kohli is going to miss his Surrey stint. Unfortunate.

Kohli, who averages just 13.4 in England in Tests, had made plans to play for Surrey to help him get acclimatized to English conditions. He had even decided to give the Afghanistan Test at Bengaluru a miss in order to accommodate his county stint, causing friction within the BCCI.
“There is no way now he is going to play 17 days of cricket in one month, you can forget about that,” the BCCI official had said, before confirmation came in.
“As of now, he is likely to play the first two first-class matches, then recuperate and then join the team in Ireland.”
