India will tour Australia later this year.
Refusal of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) to play under floodlights has forced the Australian Cricket Board (CA) to scrap the idea of playing the Test series opener as a Day/Night affair in Adelaide, as it will be now played with the red ball as per the traditional format of the game.
Earlier, Cricket Australia had proposed a day-night Test in Adelaide, which will be the opener of the four-match Test series starting from December 6, but India is not ready to play the pink-ball cricket at the moment. With the effect, Australia has confirmed now that “the Adelaide Test match will be a day format”.
As per reports in AFP, CA said in a statement, “We can confirm that we have received advice from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that it is not prepared to participate in a proposed day-night Test in Adelaide this summer. As a result, we can now confirm this Test match will be a day format.”
Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team are yet to make history, as they are continuously refusing to play a pink-ball Test as they want at least one year to prepare for it.
Meanwhile, Australia believes that the day-night Test cricket is a more television-friendly format and possibly it could help in saving the traditional format of the game.
On the other hand, CA chief James Sutherland said Australia is eyeing to play a day-night Test against Sri Lanka in Brisbane in January.
Sutherland signed off by saying, “We are committed to hosting at least one day-night Test each home summer as part of our continued focus to grow Test cricket.”
