Virat Kohli awarded the ICC ODI cricketer of the year and Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for cricketer of the year

Virat Kohli scored 1,818 ODI runs at 82.63 including seven hundreds in ODIs last year.

Virat Kohli hit the jackpot at the ICC Awards 2017 as he was awarded the ICC ODI cricketer of the year award and also won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the cricketer of the year award.

In the qualification period from September 21, 2016 to the end of 2017, Kohli scored 2,203 Test runs at an average of 77.80 including six double-centuries, 1,818 ODI runs at 82.63 including seven hundreds, and 299 T20I runs at a strike-rate of 153.

With Kohli going great guns, Team India ended up in the top three of all the three formats. Culmination of all these achievements got Kohli the ICC cricketer of the year and winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.

"It's probably the biggest award that we have in world cricket," Kohli said. "Two Indians getting it back to back makes it more special. Last time it was [R] Ashwin, this time I'm getting it so I'm really really honoured and I'd like to thank the ICC for recognising all the hard work that we all put in for our respective sides and I want to congratulate all the other winners also."

Virat Kohli’s ODI average of 55.74 is now the highest ever by a batsman from a Full Member nation. At 29 years old, Kohli also became the second highest century maker in ODI cricket with 32 centuries and has just Sachin Tendulkar in front of him.

He averages 65.29 when his team is batting second and 93.64 when his team successfully chases down a target. Whenever India chases down a total, Kohli has more than likely had a major part to play in it.
