Steve Smith scored a double ton in the third Test.
Australia regained the Ashes after defeating England in the third Test at Perth. The hosts were too good for the English team as they couldn't even push the game to fourth innings.
Aussie skipper Steve Smith outperformed everyone in the third Test and scored his career's second double hundred. He led the way with the bat with Mitchell Marsh who scored 180 odd and put up a huge partnership to help Australia to score the first-innings total of 662/9d.
This win was special for the skipper. Smith revealed to ABC radio that he was seen crying in the dugout after the victory.
“Everyone has played a part in this series, they have done a great job for Australia, for their country and to get that urn back in Perth yet again, I was crying in the sheds a bit a minute ago. Everything just came out. So much work and time has been put into this,” revealed Smith.
This was Steve Smith's first Ashes series win as captain of the Australian cricket team.
He was very proud of his performances and also the contribution of the whole team in the series so far. The number 1 Test batsman said that he wanted to leave a mark and do some great things.
“My first series as captain in the Ashes, I really wanted to leave my mark and do some really great things. I’m proud of my performances but I’m really proud of everyone in that room,” said Smith.
Smith was thankful to their medical staff too. Australia's two pacers were down with injuries before the final day. They managed to bring them back and Smith acknowledged it.
“A lot of praise has to go to the medical staff to ensure those guys were ready to go and also the selectors for ensuring those three bowlers were ready.”
