Bumrah is currently in Dharmasala for the ODI match against Sri Lanka.
India’s ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah's grandfather, Santok Singh Bumrah's body was recovered from Sabarmati River by the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) on December 10 (Sunday).
The 84-year-old Santok had gone to Ahmedabad to meet his grandson Bumrah and was reportedly missing since December 8 (Friday). A missing person's report was filed with Vastrapur police.
According to a report in Ahmedabad Mirror, the police complaint stated that "He [Santok Singh Bumrah] expressed a wish to meet his grandson on his birthday on December 5. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to meet Jasprit. On December 8, Santokh called his son Balvinder Singh, who lives in Jharkhand, and told him that he was leaving to meet his deceased wife."
As per the police, Santokh Singh used to drive an autorickshaw in Kiccha village of Uttarakhand and was a very successful businessman at one point in time. "However, after the death of Jasprit's dad, the businesses allegedly went downhill and Santokh sold off the business and settled in Uttarakhand."
"When we went to meet Jasprit's mother Daljit Kaur at a city school where she is a teacher, she refused to allow my father any contact with Jasprit. She even refused to share her son's phone number so that father could talk to him,” Santok’s daughter Rajinder Kaur told Mirror.
“My father was grief-stricken by this. He left home on Friday afternoon and never returned." She added.
Currently, the spearhead of India’s limited-overs fast blowing – Jasprit Bumrah is featuring in the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka at Dharamshala.
