ESPNCricinfo conducted a study into coaches' and captains' earnings from cricket.
Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri is the world's highest paid cricket coach with earnings nearly 1.17 million dollars per annum, according to an ESPNCricinfo report.
Shastri, who was appointed as the chief coach of Team India subsequent to Anil Kumble’s resignation in July, has had phenomenal success with Men in Blue, as Virat Kohli’s troops have lost only two matches across all formats in Shastri’s new tenure thus far.
Among the high profile coaches all around the world, Ravi’s salary is considerably higher than Australia’s Darren Lehman ($0.55 million) and England’s Trevor Bayliss ($0.52 million). In fact, the Indian chief coach earns more than the national skipper Virat Kohli if we don’t include Kohli's revenues from advertisements.
Kohli earns approximately $1 million per annum in salary, this is excluding the income he generates from advertising, which undoubtedly will be a lot more. On the other hand, Kohli's contemporaries in Australia and England, namely Steve Smith and Joe Root get paid around 1.47 million dollars and 1.27 million dollars per year respectively.

Evaluating Shastri’s income, the report published by ESPNCricinfo stated: “Ravi Shastri, at $1.17 million per year, is the world’s best-paid coach, and on his salary alone, he earns less only than what the top player from Australia, England and India earns in a year. (Shastri, like all coaches, does not earn match fees). By contrast, Australia and England pay their coach around half of what their top player earns as a basic salary.”
The report further added that Ravi Shastri’s salary is “less only than what the top player from Australia, England and India earns a year”.
