Legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar has shared his views on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi getting leadership responsibilities at the age of 15. Tendulkar’s statement came on the social media site Reddit when a user asked him to share his insights on the teenage batting phenom.

Sooryavanshi made his IPL debut at the age of 14 in IPL 2025 and scored a century and fifty in his debut season. He finally flourished in IPL 2026, his first full IPL season, and slammed 776 runs with five fifties and one century, hitting a record 72 sixes.

Thanks to these exploits, Sooryavanshi made his much-awaited India T20I debut against England at the age of 15, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.

Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi was elevated as vice-captain of the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy. He even led the East Zone when Ishan Kishan was out of play for some time.

Recently, Sachin Tendulkar was involved in a Q&A session on Reddit, and a fan asked, "What do you think of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi being handed captaincy responsibilities at just 15?"

"I feel it's too early for him to become a vice-captain in the Duleep Trophy. We have to let him play more matches with the red ball and take one step at a time!" Tendulkar wrote in reply.

Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been forced to bide his time for a chance, as Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma have been delivering consistently at the top of the order. The pair were instrumental in India's successful defense of their T20I World Cup title earlier this year.
