Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra took a sharp dig at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on social media after the latter celebrated Pakistan's victory over arch-rivals India in the 2026 Hong Kong Sixes tournament on Friday (October 30).

Pakistan defeated India by four wickets in their Group C encounter at the Mission Road Ground. In the competition featuring six overs per innings, India posted 88/5 on the board and Pakistan chased it down in 3.5 overs.

Following the win, PM Sharif posted on X (former Twitter) to praise the players and commend Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Sharif's post read: “Congratulations to our boys on a superb four-wicket victory over India in the opening clash of the Hong Kong Sixes 2026! It was a good game of cricket. I also commend Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi and his team for their dedicated efforts in preparing and supporting our players.”

Sharif's post drew considerable social media reaction from fans and media noting the minor nature of the win.

Chopra also mocked the Prime Minister for celebrating without verifying tournament facts and questioned the state of Pakistan's cricket if the PM is hyping a non-marquee event. He further pointed out that Pakistan had lost to the UAE in their earlier Group C fixture.

“‘Humne Bharat Ko Hara Diya’ bolne ki itni jaldi hai ki fact-check bhi nahin kiya. UAE se haare in the opening game. And also, you can gauge the quality of cricket Pakistan is playing that country’s PM is tweeting about Hong Kong Sixes. I mean. Really!!!,” Chopra wrote in reply.

India too lost to the UAE by six wickets in their second Group C match on Saturday (October 31). Because only the top team from each group advances to the Hong Kong Sixes semifinals, the UAE's back-to-back victories officially knocked both India and Pakistan out of contention for the tournament's main title.
