India A batter Devdutt Padikkal was controversially dismissed for 199 on Day 3 of the first unofficial Test match against New Zealand A at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.

Needing only one run to complete his double ton, the southpaw attempted to play a delivery from Kiwi fast bowler Zak Gibson down the leg side. The ball appeared to brush his pads before reaching wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay, but the on-field umpire raised his finger following a strong appeal from New Zealand A.

Because the Decision Review System (DRS) is not operational in unofficial Test matches, Padikkal could not challenge the ruling. He stood in disbelief, gesturing that there was an obvious gap between his bat and the ball before reluctantly walking off.

Devdutt Padikkal's 199 came off 248 deliveries, including 24 boundaries and 3 sixes. His innings rescued India A from a precarious situation.

After collapsing for a mere 113 in the first innings, the visitors conceded a massive 204-run lead and slumped further to 10/2 in their second essay. However, Padikkal forged a massive 215-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan (91) to shift the momentum back to India A.

At stumps on Day 3, the Dhruv Jurel-led side reached 488/8, securing a commanding lead of 284 runs. The match appears to be heading towards a draw with one more day of play remaining.
