Brook became the first England batter to score a double century in ODI cricket.
Brook notched up his double ton off 114 balls during England’s second match of the tri-series, breaking the record previously held by Indian captain Shubman Gill, who had smashed a double century off 117 balls against the West Indies in Guwahati last month.
Brook took the Sri Lankan bowling attack to the cleaners, completing his double century in the final over of the innings and was dismissed off the last ball, but not before scoring 202 off 116 balls.
His whirlwind knock, studded with 10 sixes and 21 fours, propelled the Three Lions to a massive total of 429/4 in their allotted 50 overs. Joe Root (69), Will Jacks (66) and Tom Banton (50) also struck half-centuries for England.
Brook has now become the first England player to score an ODI double century. He is also the second non-opener to score an ODI double hundred, after Glenn Maxwell achieved the feat against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup.
Cricket fraternity showered rich praise on his record-breaking innings in the third match of the ongoing tri-series against Sri Lanka.
