Ramesh Powar was head coach of India women's team.
Former India and Mumbai spinner Ramesh Powar has been appointed to the BCCI Men’s Selection Committee. This decision was revealed by the BCCI on October 19, 2026.
To appoint a member to the Men's Selection Committee, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which is made up of Mr. Ashok Malhotra and Mr. Jatin Paranjape, undertook a selection procedure. Ramesh Powar joined the selection committee after the CAC convened at the BCCI headquarters to screen and interview candidates.
Ramesh Powar made his India debut in 2004 and played 2 Tests and 31 ODIs, taking 6 and 34 wickets, respectively, with his off-spin. He also played 148 FC matches, taking 470 wickets, and 113 List-A games, taking 142 wickets, and 14 wickets in 28 T20Is.
“Ramesh Powar has since held major coaching roles, including Head Coach of the India Women’s team, Mumbai and Gujarat, as well as Bowling Coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. During his stint with the India Women’s team, he guided them to an Asia Cup title as well as a Commonwealth Games silver medal,” the BCCI statement read.
The BCCI also clarified that based on seniority (most Tests played), Pragyan Ojha will be the chairman of the selection committee, which also comprises Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra, and now Ramesh Powar.
BCCI also thanked outgoing chief selector Ajit Agarkar, whose tenure ended in early October. Under Agarkar, India won two T20 World Cups, two Asia Cups, and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, along with back-to-back Asian Games gold medals.
“The BCCI places on record its appreciation for Mr. Ajit Agarkar for his commitment, conviction, and contribution during his tenure as Chairman of the Men’s Selection Committee. Since his appointment in July 2023, Agarkar led the committee through a significant period for Indian cricket, with India winning three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles, and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals,” the BCCI statement read.
