On Monday, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia rejected rumours that the opening ODI of the forthcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka had been moved from Delhi to Ahmedabad.

In a short statement clarifying the situation, Saikia stated that Delhi had been given the December 13 match in line with the board's usual policy, and he added that the venue had not been altered.

“Reports suggesting that the India–Sri Lanka ODI match scheduled in Delhi may be shifted to Ahmedabad are not accurate. There has been no such decision by the BCCI. We request media colleagues to kindly refer to official BCCI communications for any updates regarding the schedule. Further, it needs to be reiterated that bilateral matches are primarily allotted by following a standard policy,” Saikia was quoted as saying by PTI.

The speculation arose following reports that the match might be relocated to Ahmedabad, which is set to host the series-deciding ODI on December 19, because of continuing construction work at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.

In addition to the three ODIs, Sri Lanka is also scheduled to play a three-match T20 International series during the tour.
