India’s ODI and Test captain, Shubman Gill, was left perplexed at an airport when reporters bombarded him with questions regarding the national T20I setup.

The incident followed the Indian men's cricket team’s gold medal triumph at the 2026 Asian Games in Nisshin, Japan, where they secured a 19-run victory over Pakistan in the final. When asked for his reaction to the victory, Gill cordially responded, "Congratulations to the Indian team and my teammates."

However, as reporters continued to push for insights into the T20I team's upcoming strategy and planning, a slightly confounded Gill had to firmly remind them of his status in the format, stating, "T20I mein toh hoon hi nahi" ("I am not even in the T20I setup"), before walking away.

While the Indian T20I team, led by Shreyas Iyer, clinched gold medal at the Asian Games, Shubman Gill captained the Men in Blue to 2-1 ODI series win over the West Indies during the same window.

Gill earned the Player of the Series award for his stunning exploits in three ODIs, scoring 334 runs at an average of 167 and a strike rate of 135.22. His sensational performance included a score of 110 in the first match and an explosive, career-best 223 off 133 balls* in the second ODI.
