Ajit Agarkar hasn't requested an extension to his tenure as chief of BCCI selection committee.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board has ample time until October 4 to decide on the new chief of the BCCI selection committee. October 4 is when the contract of current chief selector Ajit Agarkar ends.
On September 18, Agarkar told the BCCI he doesn’t seek an extension to his three-year contract as chairman of the Indian men's selection committee.
“As far as Ajit Agarkar is concerned, his tenure is going to be over on October 4, and we have sufficient time until then. We are going to take a decision regarding the vacant position that will arise after October 4. We will definitely announce any decision made by the BCCI in the public domain," Saikia told PTI Videos.
The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India had stated his wish that the men’s national team would follow in the footsteps of the women’s team, who won the gold medal in the cricket championship organized in Japan during the Asian Games.
"We are very proud. The country is rejoicing in its stupendous victory. The women's team has really done well, and they are continuing their winning streak of more than one year," Saikia said.
"As far as the men's team is concerned, we are starting the campaign on September 28, and the final match is on October 3. We hope that the men will also follow the same pathway that the women's team has laid in Japan. I hope the country will have another golden opportunity to rejoice on October 3," he added.
The Indian men’s team will begin their Asian Games cricket event on September 28 straight away in the quarterfinals.
