India and Delhi Capitals (DC) leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam has been accused of physical and sexual assault by a woman under the false pretext of marriage at a hotel in Noida.
According to Jagran News, the alleged victim arrived at the cricketer's house in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday (September 20) and spent nearly two to three hours sitting in a car outside, as she was waiting to meet him.
Vipraj was not present at home during this incident as he is currently in Japan to represent the Indian cricket team in the one-off T20I match against the host nation, followed by the Asian Games 2026. He recently joined the national squad as a replacement for injured Varun Chakaravarthy.
The Hyderabad-based woman kept waiting outside his house, so as a result of this, his family had to intervene. Only his mother was present inside the house at that time. Vipraj’s father eventually spoke with her over the phone, giving assurances that the family would discuss the matter with her in a week, after which she left.
The woman stated that she was only there to talk and did not want to cause a dispute. Nigam remains in Japan with the Indian squad ahead of their scheduled match.
In November 2025, Vipraj Nigam reportedly filed the initial FIR at Kotwali Nagar in Barabanki against the woman. He alleged that she was blackmailing and harassing him using multiple international phone numbers, threatening to leak fabricated, AI-generated compromising videos if her financial demands were not met.
A month later, the woman filed a counter-case with the Noida Police, formally lodging charges of rape and physical abuse against the cricketer. In her complaint, she claimed that Nigam lured her with a promise of marriage.
Vipraj Nigam represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and DC in the IPL. Signed by the Capitals for Rs 50 lakh ahead of the IPL 2025 season, he made an instant impact on his debut against the Lucknow Super Giants, smashing 39 runs off just 15 balls during a steep 210-run chase to orchestrate a thrilling one-wicket victory.
