Pakistan's National Cyber Crime agency is investigating Mohammad Rizwan and Imam Ul Haq.
This has paved the way for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to decide whether to initiate any disciplinary action against senior players Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq.
Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Aalia Neelum, dismissed the petition filed by Rizwan after hearing out the cases of both the parties. According to lawyer Qazi Umair Ali, who argued Rizwan’s case in court, notices have been issued to his client.
"You should go and respond to the notice. On which date was the notice issued to you?" Chief Justice Neelum remarked.
According to the counsel for the petitioner, after the Lord's Test, the petitioner was called to the hotel lobby, questioned without prior intimation, and his mobile phone was taken away from him.
Also, the petitioner claimed that he handed over the mobile phone on the basis of an assurance that it would be returned within three hours, but even now, the phone has not been given back.
It was said by Rizwan's counsel that the Anti-Corruption Unit of the ICC is the right forum for protecting cricketers from any corrupt practices, and in the case of the petitioner, no complaint has been made to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit.
Rizwan's lawyer, in his petition, challenged the NCCIA summons while questioning the jurisdiction of the NCCIA and the nature of the investigation.
A source stated that the NCCIA was in the process of carrying out a forensic examination of the mobile phones from Rizwan and Imam and will submit the results to the PCB by next week.
“How the PCB decides to move against the two players will now depend on what findings the NCCIA submits to the PCB. If nothing out of the ordinary is found in the forensic examination, they will probably get reprieves,” the source said.
