Kohli made a triumphant return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy last year.
Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley has reaffirmed that doors remain open for their homegrown legend Virat Kohli to play for the state team whenever his international commitments and workload management allow.
Kohli, who now only plays the ODI format for India, made a triumphant return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy last year, scoring 131 off 101 balls to help Delhi chase down a 299-run target against Andhra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
After the BCCI issued a directive for its contracted players to play domestic cricket when not on national duty, DDCA officials confirmed last year that Kohli is always welcome to play for his home state.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026-27 is due to get underway on December 14 but with a three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka slated to run from December 13 to 19, it is highly unlikely that Kohli will participate in the domestic List A tournament.
“This is his home association. There is no question of us being open. This state is as much his as it belongs to me. And his commitment to play for the state is impeccable," Jaitley said while speaking to India Today.
“Whenever available, keeping his international commitments and workload management in mind, he definitely and certainly will play for the state again," he added.
Virat Kohli is set to return to international action soon. He will feature in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies at home, starting September 27. Subsequently, he will travel to New Zealand for a five-match ODI series in November. The Men in Blue will then host Sri Lanka for three ODIs in December.
Notably, Kohli also made a much-anticipated Ranji Trophy return for Delhi after 13 years in 2025, just months before bidding farewell from Test cricket.
