Devdutt Padikkal won the Player of the Series for his twin hundreds in two Tests.
After reaching just one half-century in three innings during India's tour of Sri Lanka, Gill dropped two spots to ninth in the Test batting rankings. Rishabh Pant is still the best Indian batter in the rankings at seventh spot. Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, retained his 11th position and remains just outside the top 10.
On the other hand, Devdutt Padikkal, who had amassed 328 runs and hit two centuries, jumped five places to 54th in the latest rankings.
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the Sri Lanka Tests, dropped from second spot to third in the ICC Test bowling rankings, as Australia’s Mitchell Starc and New Zealand’s Matt Henry now occupy the top two positions.
Bumrah, who has been out of action since suffering an impact injury to his knee during the England ODIs, has been named in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan and for the Asian Games, subject to fitness.
Sonal Dinusha of Sri Lanka also had a significant impact on the batting rankings. Dinusha moved up 29 spots to 25th after his tenacious hundreds in the second Test match against India in Colombo.
After moving up six ranks, England pacer Ollie Robinson is now ranked fifth among Test bowlers. In the Lord's recent Test victory over Pakistan, he claimed eight wickets.
Josh Tongue, who claimed five wickets during the match, also saw his rating rise to a career-high 13. Mohammad Abbas of Pakistan claimed nine wickets during the encounter, moving him to joint 15th place with Taijul Islam of Bangladesh.
