Mitchell Starc starred for Australia in recent Bangladesh Test series with a 10-fer in second match.
Australia’s Mitchell Starc has dethroned India’s Jasprit Bumrah to become the new no. 1 ranked bowler in the latest ICC Test player rankings on August 26, 2026. Starc ended Bumrah’s two-year reign at the top of Test bowling charts.
Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from the Indian team for the ongoing Sri Lanka Test series and Mitchell Starc’s Player of the Series performance against Bangladesh in the recent Test series has made this huge change in ICC Test players’ rankings.
In the second Test match against Bangladesh in Mackay, Starc took 10 wickets, which was sufficient to propel the 36-year-old up two spots, beyond Bumrah and New Zealand pacer Matt Henry, and into the coveted position for the first time in his career.
Starc remained at the top of Test bowling rankings for much of his amazing career and had entered the top 3 thanks to his performances against England in the Ashes last year. Bumrah drops to second and Henry to third due to Starc's rise, while Pat Cummins moves to fourth place in the rankings.
Nathan Lyon also entered the top 10 at the 10th spot after rising two rungs.
The top spot in the Test batter rankings is still occupied by England's Harry Brook (first) and Joe Root (second), who have a slight advantage over Australia's Steve Smith (third) and Travis Head (fourth).
Rishabh Pant from India moved up six spots to tie for seventh in the top 10 after his team defeated Sri Lanka in the second innings of the first Test in Galle.
In the test all-rounders rankings, the status quo was maintained as Ravindra Jadeja reigns supreme at no. 1. But Pat Cummins moved one spot up to 7th, and Cameron Green moved to the joint 17th spot.
