Bangladesh secured a historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in the opening Test in Darwin on Sunday (August 16), marking their first-ever Test win Down Under.
The foundation of this triumph was laid in the first innings when the Tigers bundled out the Aussies for just 198 runs, thanks to Hasan Mahmud's six-wicket haul.
Driven by Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s brilliant century (101), Bangladesh racked up a massive score of 426 in their first innings. Mominul Haque (49), skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (84), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (65) also made vital contributions with the bat as the visitors gained a huge first-innings lead of 228 runs.
Cameron Green scored a defiant 104 in the second innings, but Australia's 284 left a tiny target of 57, which Bangladesh chased down rather comfortably despite losing an early wicket.
Hasan Mahmud was adjudged Player-of-the-Match for his 9-wicket haul in Darwin Test. With this win, the tourists took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.
Cricket fraternity congratulated the Bangladesh team and was full of praise for Shanto’s men after they stunned Australia in the series opener.
