Abishek Porel has been accused of rape by a medical student under false pretext of marriage.
Bengal and Delhi Capitals cricketer Abishek Porel was, on Friday, August 14, denied bail in the alleged rape case involving a medical student. The Chinsurah Court further sent Porel to judicial custody for 14 days.
Following a report alleging sexual relations under the guise of marriage and misconduct, Porel was taken into custody by Mogra Police. On August 11, he appeared in court for the first time and was placed into police detention for three days.
Since June 23, the 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, who frequently plays for Bengal and the IPL team Delhi Capitals, has been the subject of an investigation. That day, he was the target of a complaint filed at the Mogra Police Station by a young Karnataka medical student.
“There was a case lodged against him and a court order to arrest him. He was arrested late last night. He will be produced in court today," Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunar Bhushan Singh told PTI.
The woman claimed in the complaint that Porel started seeing her after making a marriage proposal. He allegedly threatened to release private photos of her after their relationship ended.
The majority of the charges were non-bailable, and police filed a case under 19 provisions. A purported event that occurred in Delhi on April 2, 2026, is also mentioned in the lawsuit. The woman stated that she was physically weak and unable to walk normally as a result of being confined, denied food, and purposefully kept alone.
She also said that both families had talked about getting married, but that after she supposedly learned about Porel's extramarital affairs, their relationship soured.
The Calcutta High Court had already heard the case. Mogra Police Station was instructed by Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya to confiscate electronic items, including Porel's cell phone, and file an inquiry report.
Police informed the court at the August 11 hearing that Porel had been taken into custody and would appear in court in Chinsurah. As the case continues, the cricket player has been sent to judicial jail for 14 days after being denied bail.
