Sooryavanshi became the youngest debutant for India during the England tour last month.
Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan heaped praise on the meteoric rise of 15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently transitioned from a record-breaking domestic and IPL run to an impressive debut on the international stage.
After lighting up the U-19 level, the teenage sensation became the youngest debutant for India during the England tour last month. He solidified his immense potential by capturing his maiden Player of the Series award during India’s 3-0 T20I sweep against Zimbabwe, amassing 151 runs across three innings.
Speaking to ANI, Dhawan specifically hailed Sooryavanshi’s ability to take on world-class bowling with pure courage.
Playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2026, Sooryavanshi won the Orange Cap and was named the Most Valuable Player for scoring 776 runs in 16 innings at an astonishing strike rate of 237.30, including one hundred, five half-centuries and a record 72 sixes in an IPL season. Along way, he dominated elite international bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
"He is batting very superbly. And it's a very big thing that at the age of 15 or 16, reaching the international level first is a big thing in itself. Even when he was playing in the IPL. But the way he hits fours and sixes, that's a wonderful thing. Having skill is one thing, but having the heart for it, and that too at 15, is a very big thing. And I'm sure that his present is also very good and his future will also be very good," Dhawan said.
Recently, Jos Buttler became the leading run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket history, surpassing Kieron Pollard during a match for the Manchester Super Giants against Welsh Fire in The Hundred.
After achieving the milestone, the England wicketkeeper-batter tipped Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to break his record in the future.
“Yeah it's really cool actually to think you've got the most T20 runs out of everyone. Someone will surpass it one day, and his name's probably Sooryavanshi. But no, it's a proud moment,” Buttler said on Sky Cricket.
The reference to Sooryavanshi shows the impact the Indian teenager has already created. He has taken the global cricket world by storm through his staggering performances, explosive power-hitting, and fearless strokeplay.
