Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal remains highly optimistic that India will travel to Bangladesh for the scheduled white-ball bilateral series in September 2026.

The tour, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, is currently under discussion with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awaiting the India government’s final approval.

Speaking to the media in Dhaka on Wednesday (July 29), Tamim confirmed the high-level communication remains active between board officials regarding the series and that the BCB is making every effort to ensure it goes ahead.

“Unfortunately, I don’t have any news regarding the India series. I am in discussions with the BCCI, and there is an exchange of emails between BCB officials. We are trying from all quarters," Tamim was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“Bangladesh’s series against India generates excitement at a different level. I’m sure that’s the case for journalists, fans, cricketers—everyone," he added.

Originally scheduled for August 2025, India’s tour of Bangladesh was postponed to September 2026 following diplomatic tensions between two nations.

Earlier this year, the relations hit rock bottom after IPL franchise KKR release Mustafizur Rahman from their roster on BCCI’s instructions while Bangladesh refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 citing security concerns.

Addressing underlying security questions or bilateral friction, Tamim explicitly noted that “Bangladesh is an extremely safe country, and I am very hopeful that they will come. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying. But one thing we all need to understand is that I am the BCB president, and there is a line that I should never cross. From my position, I am doing everything possible within my responsibility. I am talking to people and trying to explain the advantages of the India series and all those things.”

“There are certain things that are beyond my control. The discussions I’ve had so far have been very positive. They also have to make a decision. Perhaps very soon, we will find out whether the series is happening or not. So we will know very soon," he further remarked.
