Garry Sobers is famous for hitting 6 sixes in 6 balls in English county cricket and for his 365* Test score.
Due to his exceptional talent, his country promptly called him up, and the following year he made his Test debut for the West Indies. Sobers made his West Indies debut in 1954 and played his final game in 1974.
Sobers played 93 Tests, scoring 8032 runs at an average of 57.78 with 26 centuries and 30 fifties, with a best score of 365*. He was also a wonderful bowler, bowling left-arm medium pace and spin. He picked 235 wickets with best bowling figures of 6/73. He also played one ODI, scoring 0 runs and taking one wicket.
Sobers’ 365* remained the highest Test individual score till 1994, when Brian Lara managed 375 against England. Sobers also captained West Indies in 39 Tests.
Although Sobers made history in 1968 at Glamorgan's St Helen's ground in Swansea by becoming the first batter to knock six sixes in a single over of six consecutive balls in first-class cricket, his accomplishments over the course of a lengthy and famous career were numerous.
The ICC's premier annual award in men's cricket - the Sir Garfield Sobers Award - is named in his honour and recognizes the most outstanding overall performer in men's international cricket across all formats.
