Mohammad Nawaz, a spin-bowling all-rounder from Pakistan, has agreed to a three-month ineligibility sentence for violating the ICC Anti-Doping Code. This period will be shortened to one month upon completion of a substance addiction treatment program.

The 32-year-old had tested positive for a Substance of Abuse (Carboxy-THC) under the ICC Anti-Doping Code following a doping test carried out during Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 7 February. This substance comes under the ICC's list of banned “Substances of Abuse.”

Nawaz admitted to the offense and provided documentation that the drug had been used outside of competition and in a way unconnected to athletic performance.

Because he began a voluntary provisional suspension on May 1, 2026, he has been granted three months of ineligibility. Furthermore, Nawaz's two-and-a-half-month temporary ban has been lifted following his acceptance of the sentence and commitment to the rehabilitation program.

Nawaz won't have to spend the remaining three months of ineligibility if he completes a substance addiction rehabilitation program to the ICC's satisfaction.

Nawaz's records from the match against the Netherlands on February 7 and all following matches until May 1, 2026, have been nullified in accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
