Ashleigh Gardner was part of Australia's T20 World Cup 2026 winning team.
Gardner had married long-term partner Wright in a ceremony in April 2025 after meeting on a dating app in 2020 before proposing to each other in April 2024.
A report in the Daily Mail said that during Australia's World Cup campaign in India, the marriage started to fall apart. Midway through the event, Wright apparently sensed something wasn't right and took a plane to India.
“It was a little bit weird. It was like something was a little bit off with Ash, but we thought it was because of the pressure of the World Cup,” the report stated.
The report further had the source stating that after Wright got to India, things got "just horrible" and Gardner "didn't seem like herself."
Wright was described as "shattered" and "distraught" after Gardner purportedly explained why things had felt "off" during the India tour during their conversation after returning to Sydney. It is believed that their marriage dissolved shortly after.
Although information of the couple's separation finally became public last week, it is said that they split up in November of last year. On Monday, the story took a different turn when Wright posted a picture of Australian batter Georgia Voll with the caption: “This is who my wife cheated on me with”, on social media, along with a screenshot of the Daily Mail article.
"They were about to go to the fertility clinic. They had a booking that Monica had to cancel. Ash left one day. Monica came home, and everything of Ash's was gone, except for the rings. She left the wedding rings in the cupboard. Just the box of wedding rings, and that was it,” the report stated.
According to the article, when Gardner was named captain of the Sydney Sixers before to the Women's Big Bash League in November, the National Selection Panel of Cricket Australia was informed of the collapse of the marriage.
Three months later, Gardner was appointed vice-captain of Australia. It further stated that Gardner tried to make amends with Wright during talks about those appointments, but the relationship could not be saved.
