Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is set to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. The formal announcement is scheduled for July 11 following the conclusion of the International Cricket Council annual conference.

Ganguly will become the 12th Indian cricketer to receive this prestigious honour, joining an elite list of legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and MS Dhoni.

Taking to X, Ganguly himself confirmed the development and thanked ICC chairman Jay Shah for the honour.

“Thank you ICC and Chairman Jay shah @JayShah for inducting me in the hall of fame .. it’s a huge honour ..One of the 10 Indians to be inducted in the hall of fame ever .. Amazing to be a part of some great names .. @bcci,” Ganguly wrote.

The induction serves as a fitting tribute to his illustrious career, where he amassed 18,575 international runs from 424 matches with 38 centuries. He also claimed 132 wickets with his medium-pace bowling.

Sourav Ganguly is widely deemed as one of India's finest captains. He took charge of the national team in 2000 when Indian cricket was emerging from the match-fixing scandal and played a key role in reshaping the side.

Under his leadership, India’s performance in overseas conditions improved by leaps and bounds. The team reached the 2003 World Cup final, shared the 2002 Champions Trophy title, pulled off a historic Test series win in Pakistan in 2004, and famously ended Australia's 16-Test winning streak at the Eden Gardens in 2001.

Ganguly is also credited for nurturing a generation of stars, including Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, and Dhoni, laying the foundation for India's future success.

The Hall of Fame honour comes just as the first look of Ganguly's upcoming biopic, 'Dada', was released on his 54th birthday. The poster features Rajkummar Rao, who will portray the former India captain, recreating Ganguly's iconic shirtless celebration on the Lord's balcony following India's historic 2002 NatWest Series final victory against England.
