Former India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav on Tuesday (July 7) released an official statement to firmly dismiss a viral, fabricated quote that claimed he expressed anger and bitterness toward the national selectors after being dropped from the team.

A highly viral post quoted Suryakumar claiming he was axed "without clarity," "disrespected," and that his "hard work had been forgotten" after losing the T20I captaincy.

Since the fake quote caused massive confusion online, Suryakumar issued a clarification to distance himself from the rumors, reaffirm his complete support for Team India, and encourage fans to stop sharing unverified misinformation.

“I'm very happy for the team and wish them nothing but the very best, always. I know the boys are giving it their all, and they will always have my full support. A special word for Vaibhav - you're at the start of what promises to be a very exciting journey. Enjoy every moment and keep making the country proud,” the statement read.

“I've also noticed a statement being circulated online that has been falsely attributed to me. I want to make it clear that I have not made or authorized any such statement. Please don't believe or share unverified information. My support for Indian cricket, my teammates, and the game will always speak louder than words falsely attributed to me,” it added.

Despite leading India to T20 World Cup title earlier this year, Suryakumar Yadav was dropped from the national squad entirely following an extended dip in form.

Surya couldn’t score a T20I half-century last year, and also failed to leave a mark against the top-ranked teams during India’s triumphant T20 World Cup campaign. The 35-year-old carried his poor form into the IPL 2026, where he scored 270 runs in 13 innings at a low average of 20.77 for the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Shreyas Iyer replaced him as India’s T20I captain. Iyer’s leadership stint got off to a rough start as the Men in Blue recently lost the series 0-2 to Ireland. The team is currently trailing 0-1 in the five-T20I series against England after two matches.
